We all at times want to give up, not realizing how close we are to the finish line. Victory comes to those who can endure the journey from vision to manifestation. You have to have the determination to see what you’ve started all the way through to the very end if you want to succeed at fulfilling your dream. You can’t just give up just because you ran into a bump in the road, you had a set-back, you messed up and made a mistake. Keep going and you will get there.

Early in my career I was a female housing inspector in Atlanta, and being a black woman working in a male-dominated industry I had to deal with evil stares, nasty attitudes, ridicule, mistreatment, isolation, and plenty of ugliness. So many people were trying to make me quit. That’s all they wanted. They threw so much pressure my way to make me feel like crumbling, but my eyes were set on my goal. I wanted the promotion and I wasn’t going to stop until I got there. If I had given up when they were trying to get me to leave I would have never experienced the enjoyment of seeing the table reversed: and worse, I would be living with a ton of regrets today, thinking to myself, “Where would I be today if I had just stayed there instead of running away?”

H. Ross Perot once stated “Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from the winning touchdown.” The sad part is that a person will never know just how close they are to the finish line.

Who told you that you can’t be great, you are sorry, you lack originality and creativity, and you’ll never be anything in life? Who put you down and made you feel low? Well, take note from the lives of all of those today who have achieved success and DON”T GIVE UP. Find the boss in you. Don’t give up on yourself. Don’t assume that you have to be what others say you are, because you don’t.

One other thing to remember is that your past doesn’t determine your future. The same way other people’s opinions of you don’t dictate your future, your past doesn’t dictate your future. Just because you started out rocky, made bad decisions in the past, doesn’t mean you have to write yourself off as if that’s the end of the world. You must be willing to press on, persevere, fight to hold on to your dream, and not give up if you want to make it.
